EME and LF Bands Dxpedition in Los Baños
Update 13th March, Expedition now QRT.
The EME operation took place in Splash Mountain Resort, Los Baños (locator PK04nc), Philippines from March 10th to March 12th 2006. This operation was a forerunner of the planned re-visit to Spratly Islands later this year. There was a well-attended seminar on EME on Sunday, and all present were greatly impressed. The seminar was sponsored by PARA and the Makiling Amateur Radio Society.
Operation from Los Baños was on 50/144MHz EME, and low band 160/80m, using the callsign DZ1JP. Involved are members of FEDXP and other Japanese groups, with the co-operation of MARS (Makiling Amateur Radio Society), DX1MK.
The 144MHz part was quite successful with many contacts made, but 50MHz was plagued with Sporadic E openings to JA as well as interference from Chinese tv signals centered around 49.750. The sidebands were very strong in the 6m band.
Operation on Top Band was around 1.828MHz
